Members of the Memphis SP have been at work, leading two crucial budgetary campaigns through the Memphis Bus Riders Union (MBRU) and Homeless Organizing for Power and Equality (HOPE). Over the summer, MBRU organized over 200 riders to attend public hearings on proposed transportation cuts. This and other MBRU actions stopped major gutting of local bus lines and restored over $1 million in public transportation funding. SP members also worked to secure $240,000 in budgetary designations for homelessness services. With the local budget season over, SP members in Memphis continue to organize with MBRU and HOPE, while looking forward to new campaigns under the SP banner.
